It has been many a year since I’ve read a true mystery novel. Most books these days contain a certain amount of mysterious elements to keep the reader guessing, but the last true mystery I read had to have been when I was 14 or 15 and read one of those Hardy Boys novels.

Carolyn Hart’s latest Death by Demand mystery DEATH WALKED IN is like the older-ages version of the mysteries I loved to read when I was younger. The twists and the clues are laid out in such a precise manner I found myself skipping my other reading and rushing to finish this book (a fact my professors might not appreciate :D ). This mystery kept me guessing until the end who the mysterious ‘gr…ff’ was that the dying woman managed to rasp out. Like the best mystery novels, this one completely led me in the wrong direction and had me quite certain about the murderer: when in fact the murderer was someone completely different that I should have been expecting all the time. If I had guessed correctly this book would have been just another mystery, but I was so vastly wrong and the truth so obviously laid out before me at the end that I went and re-read parts to see where I had been led astray.

Wonderful book with a well conceived plot. I haven’t read any of the other books in this series and I was still able to pick up on who was who, so you can really get it and start right where you are. It comes out March 25.
